
The Foundation for Common Land has welcomed news that Natural England has decided to abandon its 50 year vision for the uplands of England, called Vital Uplands. Julia Aglionby, chairman of the Foundation said, "We of course recognise the value of a strategic approach to managing the critical resource of the English uplands, which provide so many agricultural, social, cultural and environmental benefits for the nation. But such an approach needs to be collaborative and the vision shared. We are calling on the government's conservation agency, Natural England, to place commoners, farmers and land-managers at the very heart of planning for the future of our uplands"
