John Griffiths, Minister for Natural Resources, has set out new plans to enhance and build the resilience of Welsh wildlife and habitats.
The Minister is asking for people’s views on the Nature Recovery Plan that sets out how the Welsh Government intends to reverse the decline of biodiversity in Wales.
The proposed plan sets ambitious targets, details the strategic actions needed to achieve such goals and asks how the Welsh Government can best help Wales’ natural environment recover and thrive.
Actions include:
• Working closely with partners, including NRW, to ensure natural resource management is effectively put in place
• Delivering a Welsh National Marine Plan
• Reviewing existing grant funding models to ensure a simplified and clear approach to funding for projects to enhance nature in Wales
• Reviewing how designated sites and species are managed to ensure that wider benefits are achieved
• Providing strategic advice on practical delivery to organisations taking action on the ground
• Improving the evidence base to help track progress
The consultation will run for 12 weeks until 3 December 2014 and the final Nature Recovery Plan will be launched next year.
